Ausbildungs-Scouts

“Ausbildungs-Scouts” are apprentices in various apprenticed profession who belong to the Chamber of Commerce (IHK), to which the concept of this vocational orientation measure belongs.  The apprentices visit classes at secondary schools, where they present their profession to the pupils and thus give them an understanding of dual training.

Background

Regional companies need new apprentices to maintain their business. By sending their current apprentices to the schools, they can influence the pupils' choice of training company.

The concept of “Ausbildungs-Scouts” has already existed for several years. It is a stable format in that since the beginning of the Corona pandemic, unlike many other career orientation measures, it can also take place online without any problems.

One hurdle is the acquisition of training scouts. Since the training companies are responsible for registering their trainees for participation, the programme would have to be advertised in a suitable way.

Goal

The goal of this information event is to give pupils an understanding of dual vocational training and, to this end, to introduce them to apprenticed profession and companies as well as opportunities that arise following training. The training companies that send their apprentices have the opportunity to present their company and make themselves attractive to potential apprentices.

Description of the type of measure

The target group of the “Ausbildungs-Scouts” are primarily the pupils of the pre-vocational classes of secondary schools. The information event is suitable for giving pupils an authentic impression of dual vocational education and training, as the scouts, in addition to presenting the contents of the training, can report on their own motivation to do vocational training and on their personal experiences during the apprenticeship they are still undergoing themselves.

In addition, regional training companies that send the training scouts to the schools benefit from the vocational orientation measure, as potential future apprentices can be recruited in this way.

This career orientation measure also has advantages for teachers at secondary education schools. They have the opportunity to supplement career orientation with a practical approach in addition to the theoretical approach and to expand their network with training companies.

The training companies register their apprentices with the IHK for participation in the measure and release them for the duration of their assignment at the school. IHK regional coordinators then take over the implementation of the measure on site. They prepare the scouts for their assignment in advance and act as contact persons for all those involved. The apprentices then receive a certificate for their commitment.

Participation in the measure is free of charge for the schools, companies and the scouts.

The frequency and time frame of the “Ausbildungs-Scouts'” assignments are agreed upon in consultation with the schools that are interested in this measure.

Implementation

Schools and the Chamber of Commerce are involved in the implementation of the vocational orientation measure, as well as the companies that register their apprentices for the programme there. To ensure successful implementation, it is particularly important to advertise the programme.

This is how the companies find out about the possibility of participating in the "Ausbildungs-Scouts" programme.

The vocational orientation measure is financed and advertised by the Chamber of Commerce.

For the realisation of an upcoming online event, TUASRO was looking for students who were completing an apprenticeship in the IHK's area of responsibility alongside their studies. Together with the IHK, the apprentices were informed about the contents of the career orientation measure in a joint meeting. They passed the information on to their companies, which then registered them. Since the event takes place online, no spatial resources will be needed. If the measure takes place on site, the premises are provided by the school.
